Use this tool to find and explore information about the data that is held in the NPD, before applying to access Department for Education (DfE) data extracts. You can search for specific data items, browse through the data items in each dataset (the data collections that feed into the NPD) or browse down via high level data categories until you find the group of data items you’re interested in. Datasets
This has information on pupil absences derived from the termly School Census.
Alternative Provision census data. This has information on children in Alternative Provision, i.e. a school not maintained by an LA but which the authority is paying full tuition fees for.
This has information on pupil addresses as collected in the Alternative Provision Census.
This has information covering all children who are referred to children’s social care services.
This has information on children looked after by local authorities in England.
Early years census data. This has information on children attending any private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sector nursery with one or more children receiving funding from the Department.
Early Years Foundation Stage Profile data. This has information on the statutory assessment of children in the final year of the Foundation Stage (Reception year).

Categories
Information about pupils and their school including personal and family data, where they live, the school they go to and when they started there.

Information on all recorded authorised and unauthorised absence and exclusion. Includes reasons, dates and the amount of time missed in sessions.
Information on children in need (CIN) referred to children's services and children looked after (CLA) who’re in education and looked after by local authorities.
